B.S. Abdur Rahman University is a private university in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is formerly known as B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Engineering College. B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Engineering College now has been upgraded as B.S Abdur Rahman University. It is one of the few institutions with all the UG and PG programs approved by AICTE and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. This has been upgraded to university status with a view to keep academic in pace with development in industry. The University is located in the Seethakathi Estate, Vandalur, Chennai, on the G.S.T. Road, (Chennai-Trichy National Highway).
B. S. Abdur Rahman University was founded in 1984 as Crescent Engineering College. It is a Muslim minority institution approved by the All India Council of Technical Education and affiliated to Madras University. The college was affiliated to Madras University until the year 2001. Crescent Engineering College was affiliated to Anna University until 2008. It was elevated as a university (B. S. Abdur Rahman University) by Section 3 of the UGC act 1956 in December 2008.
S. Abdur Rahman University is located in the outskirts of Chennai city on the G.S.T. Road, (Chennai-Trichy National Highway) 7 km from Tambaram and 2 km from Vandalur Railway Station and 17 km from the International Airport. Being adjacent to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park, it is easily accessible by city buses.

Hostel Facilities - The University hostel has excellent facilities and infrastructure that make students feel comfortable like home even at hostel. There are men’s hostels which can accommodate up to 1300 in double, four and six bedded type rooms. It has a secure women’s hostel which can accommodate up to 300 in four and six bedded rooms. Four well constructed, state of the art buildings, complete with lifts, form the new hostel block. The men and women hostels have their own mess, where the students are offered a choice of both vegetarian and non vegetarian food.
Library Facilities - The University library provides good volume of books to students on different disciplines covering all major fields of Engineering, Science and Humanities. The Library subscribes both National & International periodicals including IEEE, ACM, ASME, ASCE, Elsevier, Emerald & Springer publications. The library is also having Educational Audio & Video Cassettes, CD ROMs, Back Volumes, Project Reports, Thesis reports and other many facilities.
Canteen Facilities - The University has neat and clean canteen which consists of four long and wide halls. It offers delicious, healthy and nutritious meals for students and staff. In this friendly environment, one can experience every shade and color of life. Canteen also has two kiosks for fresh juices and milk-shakes.
Sports’ Facilities - The College has been crowned champion many times in the Anna University inter-collegiate sporting events. The college has well built grounds for cricket, football, hockey as well as courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton and ball badminton.
Research – The university makes available different types of equipments available to meet the needs of UG and PG programmes. It has more than Rs 3.5 crores worth of equipments in different laboratories which are meant exclusively for research related activities.
EDC - Entrepreneurship Development is recognized by NSTEDB, DST (National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board) in 2004 with financial assistance of Rs 8 lakhs. It is involved in creating awareness on Entrepreneurship among the students through training programmes and camps.
Alumni - The Alumni Association was founded in the year 2000 as a non- profit organization. It carries out several activities towards the welfare of the university and its students.
Placement Cell – The Placement Cell is headed by a full time Placement & Training Officer with wide industrial experience. One faculty co-coordinator and two student representatives from each department assist Placement & Training Officer. The placement season of the college starts right from the beginning of the seventh semester (i.e.) from the month of June onwards. Some of the employing companies are Infosys Technologies, Wipro Technologies, L&T Infotech etc.
Convention Centre – The University has a convention centre with an Air conditioned Auditorium of 1200 seating capacity for conducting Pre-Placement talks with modern facilities like data projector for power point presentation, OHP & Public address system. It has also got 3 seminar halls (all air-conditioned) of seating capacities 300, 180 & 80 respectively. The hall with 300 seating capacity has provision for conducting written tests. Also rooms are available for conducting Group Discussions and Interviews. LAN for conducting online computer based tests is also available to assist the recruitment process.
Extracurricular Activities – Most of these activities are voluntary and promote self development.

For department technical Societies, the respective student are included as member while in others, they are voluntary. All these activities are facilitated by the respective faculty coordinators. There is also a Photography club and an Art club.
Prof Vijayan Sugumaran (Professor of Management Information Systems in the department of Decision and Information Sciences at Oakland University) is currently in BSA University as a part of the United States - India Educational Foundation (USIEF) Fulbright Specialist Program
NASA Austronaut Marsha Ivins, who had five space flights and three space walks with over 1389 hrs. in space visited the University on 30th April, 2012. She delivered a special Lecture titled " 55 Days in Space: The Story of an American Austronaut.
