Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science - HITS, established in the year 1985, has been conferred the 'University Status' by UGC, Govt.of India u/s 3 of UGC Act 1956 with the name 'Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science from the academic year 2008 - 09. The Vision of Hindustan University is "To make every man a success and no man a failure".

HITS is one of the most sought after engineering institutions in Tamil Nadu reputed for its highly qualified and experienced faculty, excellent infrastructure facilities for curricular and co-curricular activities, sports and recreation facilities and also for the academic excellence which is being maintained right from the inception of the college. Over the years, there has been to increase in the graduate enrollment, expanding of external support for research facilities, scholarships, reward professional accomplishment of faculty, staff and students and also successfully met the need of the student community by providing leadership, sponsorship and participation in cultural events and civic activities.

The Hindustan Group of Institutions was founded in 1966 by Founder and Chairman, Dr.K.C.G. Verghese. In the sixties, the Chairman had realized the need for an Institution that offers non-formal technical education. The establishment of Hindustan Engineering Training Centre (HETC) helped in the evolution of Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology (HIET) which met this need. This educationalist, industrialist and pioneer of the concept of non-formal technical education in Chennai (Madras) headed several other institutions. These institutions aim at imparting quality education in the field of engineering, aviation, applied sciences and management

Location - Hindustan University is located at Padur about 22 kms, South of Chennai (Madras) on the Rajiv Gandhi Salai. It is situated amidst a lush green stretch of land, spread over 120 acres, extending from OMR to the silver sheen of Muttukadu lake.

Transportation - Candidates arriving for the first time to Chennai by train may hire a taxi (from Central Station or Egmore) and proceed via Mound Road to Guindy and then to the office at a distance of 1/2 km from Guindy.

The administrative office of the group is located at No.40, Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road, St.Thomas Mount, half a km from Guindy Railway Station and 3kms from the Chennai Kamaraj Domestic and Anna International Airport.

Facilities

General Corporate Courses - In addition to the regular training programmes meeting the requirements of Universities and other technical boards, Hindustan Group is offering tailor made programmes for the requirements of Industries and corporate houses both in India & overseas. We have been in association with various industries like Aluminium Bahrain(ALBA), in conducting various quality improvement programme for their work force in Chennai and Bahrain.

Airports Authority of Maldives have sponsored around a dozen of their supervisors to undergo specialized training in the field of Automobile Engineering. We have also associated with Indian Oil Corporation and Govt. Of Tamil Nadu for imparting specialized training for their staff. Recently we have conducted an 18 month tailored programme to the staff trainees of Riyam Computer Services, Muscat, Oman. This programmes meets the rigid standards of international industry. With the latest infrastructures, highly qualified and experienced faculty, we are confident of meeting any Hi -Tech training requirements of the corporate world.

Hostels - Campus hostels provide quality accommodation for over 1000 students. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. The college and all the institutes have hostels within the campus for the convenience of students. Healthy meals are served in the dining halls. Fully furnished air-conditioned rooms are also available. Residents can opt for vegetarian, non-vegetarian, Indian and continental mess.

Digital Library - Every institute run by Hindustan has well equipped libraries with many technical books, a large number of Indian and foreign technical journals and an excellent collection of light reading material. The library also has a large collection of video cassettes and CDs of technical and management subjects for the use of staff and students. Online access system is available in libraries.

Laboratories - The college is well planned and aesthetically designed by leading architects and is also beautifully landscaped to house academic blocks, state-of-the-art workshops and laboratories. Computer labs are available to students and are configured with the latest Pentiums and wired to the internet through dedicated leased lines offering excellent connectivity for research, etc., Training on industrial software packages are also done in our labs. All the computers throughout our campus are connected through internet connectivity using HDSL technology.

Sports and Games - The institution has beautifully maintained playgrounds and facilities for basket ball, volleyball, cricket, tennis, horse riding, water sports and other games including an indoor badminton court and also table tennis and billiards. A well equipped gymnasium is also available for boys and girls.

Councelling Service & Students Support Services - Counseling services is offered by our institutions for students who have difficulty in coping with their courses, for those with personal problems and for those who are not able to enjoy college life. In case of any counseling service required about any problem, the students may consult our counsellors who shall assure strict confidentiality of any information provided in this regard.

Transport - The college is well connected to the city by the public transport buses. Apart from this, the college operates its own fleet of buses for the convenience of the students and staff.

a. Winner of 7th MMA award for Managerial Excellence in Educational Institutions.

b. Outlook (2008) rated as # 8 in infrastructure. # 17 in South India. # 26 in all India in the survey conducted among private technical institutions in the country.

c. G-CUBE Award (April 2008, Green Governance) was presented by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of New Delhi, Ms.Sheila Dikshit.

d. GURUKUL JYOTI AWARD (2007) - One of the first five educational institutions in Engineering category in the country.

e. Rated the Mechanical Engineering Department of the institution as No.1 in Tamil Nadu in the Top Engineering College's Survey.
