Sheet Metal Worker is a sheet metal product/repair vocational trade. The duration of trade is one year with two semesters of six months each. During trade students are introduced to so many topics like how to fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment such as ducts, control boxes, drainpipes and furnace casings; and also setting up and operating fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal; shaping metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammer; operating soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts; or inspecting, assembling, and smoothing seams and joints of burred surfaces. The trade is career orienting in nature that opens many jobs in metal industries.

 

Sheet Metal Worker Trade Eligibility

  • Students should be passed in 8th class examination from a recognised school board in the country.

- Tin snips (Straight cut, Right cut and Left cut) cutting off inside and outside curve, cutting off notches and cutting off profiles.

- Hand tools: mallets, hammer, sheet metal hammers, groovers, riveting tools, screw drivers, wrench and spanners etc.

- C clamps, stakes, stakes holder, hollow mandrel, wooden former, Jigs & fixtures, soldering bits etc

Practice on Sheet Metal seams. “Grooved seam, Locked Grooved seam, Pane down seam, Bottom lock seam or Corner Fold (Knocked-up seam), Corner Clip Lock, Double Bottom Lock, Clip Lock (Cap Lock),

Sheet Metal Worker Trade Required Skills

  • Students should have good physical condition; a mechanical aptitude; strength, stamina and the use of proper lifting techniques required to handle heavy tools.
  • They should possess good eyesight and manual dexterity; the ability to visualize a finished product from a document; a good background in practical mathematics, geometry and document reading.
  • They should have the ability to stand for long periods, heavy lifting and carrying and work in high, awkward and noisy places; the ability to work in a construction or shop environment.
