Book Binder Trade is a Craftsmen Training course. The duration of this trade course is one year with two semesters a time span of six months each. Bookbinding is a small scale profession. There are many ITIs proving this trade course in the country. The course is important and valuable especially in paper and paper-binding related industries. During the course, students are introduced to different paper activities undertaken in paper industries. They are also told about the changing trends in this industry from time to time.  They have many opportunities after its successful passing in private industries and their self-employment.

 

Book Binder Trade Eligibility

Students should be passed in 8th class examination under 10+2 system of education or its equivalent from a recognised school board.

  • Adhesives-preparation and use.
  • Guillotine-handling, care, and use, cutting, trimming.
  • Other operations, ruling, perforating, numbering, eye-letting etc., equipment used, their handling & operation.
  • Flush binding – work involving perforating, numbering, duplicated and triplicate copies.
  • Case binding – simple exercises.
  • Edge decoration, marbling, and indexing, tabbing, blind, and gold tooling.
  • Blocking ink, gold and files materials used their handling and care.

Book Binder Trade Required Skills

  • Students should possess mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity and normal colour vision.
  • They should have an interest in the current trends and keep up-to-date with re-training and technology changes.
  • They should also be able to set up and operate specialized equipment and machines that cut, fold, gather, stitch and trim brochures, magazines, books, business forms and other printed material.
  • They should also be able to use measuring devices and adjust controls to regulate size of cut and machine speed; use hand tools to set up and maintain equipment; run computerized units to start, stop and regulate machines and equipment.

 

How is Book Binder Trade Beneficial?

  • After passing the course students are given jobs by binderies, commercial printing companies, newspapers, and magazines and other publishing companies and establishments in both the public and private sectors that have in-house printing, binding and finishing departments.
