Medical Transcription is a medical translation vocational trade. The duration of trade is six months or one semester. Students are taught during class hours about different aspects of medical transcription such as typing written reports of the audio files doctor record after they interact with patient; transcribing dictation by physicians and other healthcare providers in order to document patient care; dictating a variety of medical reports such as emergency room visits, diagnostic imaging studies, operations, chart reviews and final summaries; translate medical jargon and abbreviations into their expanded forms. Trade is good and career orienting in nature in medical transcription field at various places like hospital and other health institutes.

  • Students should be passed in 10th class examination or its equivalent from a recognized school board in the country.

Pharmacology and Laboratory Medicine: Identification of Main Medicines and Drugs. Key Board Practice Pathology, Radiology, Cardiology - Study, Interpretation & preparing report of various Pathological, radiological findings. Key Board Practice.

 

Pharmacology and Laboratory Medicine: Generic Names & Pharmacological classifications. Common Medicines & Drugs (Including American). Pathology, Radiology, Cardiology – Basic Ideas: Investigations & nomenclatures, few relevant parameters used in Electro-cardiology, Echocardiology, Pulmonology & Radiology.

Computer: Practice on data entry & data processing and Text editing. Logging, Internet Browsing. Down loading – Text. Key Board Practice.

Computer Basics: Computer Software, Input/Output Devices. MS Office - MS Word. Browsing, Surfing, E –mail.

Medical Transcription: Practice on Transcribing of authentic physician’s dictation, including office chart notes in various formats, letters, initial office evaluations, history & physicals, consultations, operative reports and discharge summaries.

Medical Transcription: Use, importance & application of Medical Transcription. New paradigm of Medical treatment using Computer, Internet, Website etc. Familiarisation with AAMT Book of Style Guidelines.

  • Students should possess basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications and laboratory values.
  • They should have skills like knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices; skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation, style and editing and the ability to use designated professional reference materials.
  • Other skills they expected to require are the ability to operate word processing equipment, dictation and transcription equipment and other equipment as specified; ability to work under pressure with time constraints; ability to concentrate and excellent listening skills.
