Robotics Engineering Courses in India are like ‘Babies in Cradles’; yet to stand on their feet (keeping in mind year 2011). Most of the engineering institutes in India offer robotics engineering as specialisation of other engineering disciplines like - Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, Computer Engineering and Computer Science. Very few robotics engineering colleges offer it as a full fledge course but that doesn’t lessen the value of courses in robotics engineering. Robotics engineering as the terminology goes, deals with construction, designing, manufacturing and operation of robots. Robots are advanced machines or systems which are capable of performing complex tasks automatically. Different types of robots perform different tasks like industrial robots for industries, military robots for military tasks and so on. More commonly known as Robotics, the field also covers applications, computer systems, development, information processing, research and other related areas. Keeping in mind, the use of other disciplines as mentioned above, Robotics is an inter-disciplinary course. Robotic engineers are the experts who work in the area of robotics. Their work area essentially includes designing, maintenance, programming, standardizing and servicing robots. Robotics test engineers and automation system engineers are other terms used for Robotic engineers. Still a developing field in India, Robotics holds a bright future for pursuing candidates. The importance of robots cannot be denied; they can perform tasks which are dirty, risky or repetitive. In advanced nations these are saving precious lives by performing hazardous and tedious jobs in atomic plants, factories, mines, space ships etc. They can also work in impossible scenarios like volcanoes, floods, deep sea probe, deep space research etc. They are also efficient and speed up processes which otherwise would take long time.

Course Objectives
Course: Basic Requirements
For appearing in entrance test for bachelor’s courses, the candidate must have passed the higher secondary school certificate (10+2) examination with science subject’s viz. biology, maths and chemistry.
Varying percentage requirements are conditional as per the rules and regulation of an institute. Interview may be required as per se.
For masters degree course, an engineering degree i.e. B.Tech. or B.E. in Computer, IT, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electronics, Electrical etc. is the required qualification for appearing in entrance tests or admission in an institute.
Personal Attributes
A candidate should have an analytical ability and aptitude for understanding blueprints and diagrams.
Thorough understanding of the principles of chemistry, electronics, mathematics and physics is a must.
A technical bent of mind, mechanical skills with know-how of logic, microprocessors, computer programming is also essential in this field.

Robotics Engineering Career & Job Perspectives
Robotics field is a dynamic field whose application is feasible in various fields like agriculture, engineering, mining, medical, military, manufacturing, production, transportation and innumerable others. Its interdisciplinary nature opens up avenues for all technical professionals including mechanical, electrical, electronics and others. A career in robotics engineering is further enhanced by specializations in robotics engineering. On a large scale machines are replacing humans and in that context, robotics engineering sounds ironical, when it comes to employment. On the one hand robots are slowly and steadily replacing human power but at the same time robots need to be repaired, serviced, manufactured, assembled and various other employment venues are in effect. Until & unless the aforesaid activities are also performed by robots themselves, then an employment crisis is a possibility. But there is a very long time before that happens on a national level, let alone on a worldwide scale. Till then employment scopes are abundant and far reaching.
Major Indian employers in robotics engineering include ISRO, IITs, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, BHEL, BARC, ISRO, DRDO, TATA, KUKA Robotics (India) Private Limited, Precision Automation & Robotics India Ltd. etc. However, the scope for career advancement is most abundant in North America through the likes of NASA, Intel, Robotics Industrial Association in North America and various others.
Robotics Engineering Remuneration
A unique career but at par with other engineering professions, a fresher can earn a starting salary of Rs 5-6 lakhs per annum for a fresher. Experience, location, job type and the employing organisation pay a big role in deciding the salary package. Most of the firms also provide health insurance, paid holidays, retirement plans and vacations.
