Electrical Engineering is a field of engineering that deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. Electrical Engineering Courses in India encompass the application of the laws of physics governing electricity, magnetism, and light to develop products and services for the benefit of humankind. It's evolution as an occupation can be identified during the late nineteenth century after commercialization of the electric telegraph and electrical power supply. Today it covers a wide range of area including power, electronics, control systems, signal processing and telecommunications. Professional in this field is known as Electrical Engineer. Electrical engineers conduct research, and design, develop, test, and oversee the development of electronic systems and the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment and devices. Some of this equipment includes broadcast and communications systems, electric motors, machinery controls, lighting and wiring in buildings, automobiles, aircraft, radar, navigation systems, power generating, controlling and transmission devices used by electric utilities. Many electrical and electronics engineers also work in areas closely related to computers.

Objectives
Basic Requirements
To be eligible for bachelor's degree course i.e. B.E. or B. Tech., one must clear the 12th std. board exam with at least 50% marks(60% for IITs) in the science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Maths as compulsory subjects. Several states and IITs have an entrance exam for admission into engineering, colleges in other states grant admission based on marks scored in 12th Std. exam, particularly in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Diploma holders can also get direct admission into second year of engineering in the same stream in which they have completed their diploma.
For a diploma in engineering, one must clear the 10th Std. board exam successfully with at least 50% marks. Various polytechnics offer diploma in various disciplines of engineering. There is also the Associate Membership Examination of the Institute of Engineers (AMIE), which enables working people in the private and public sector, or diploma holders to acquire a Bachelor's engineering degree through distance education.

Job Perspectives
Electrical Engineers are required by the industries manufacturing all the household and office appliances like refrigerator, television, computer, microwave and everything else related. In an age where satellite-transmitted television and transcontinental computer networks are essential component of any business, the requirement of engineers is ever-present. Electrical engineers also find employment in atomic power plants, hydroelectric power plants as well as thermal power plants. Lots of jobs are available with government departments and as such they are also entitled to a lot of incentives and perks. The increments are performance based as well as position based. Large and small organisations depend on engineers to meet their continuous demands.
They become involved with career guidance at schools, write articles for magazines and newspapers on relevant subjects, act as editors for technical publications, participate in meetings discussing the future of electrical engineering, offer a high standard of education to students, advice government on policy matters, give talks to interested parties on new inventions and developments, act as mentors to young engineers etc. In the modern world Electrical Engineers are increasingly often becoming entrepreneurs - rather than obtaining permanent employment at an organisation. Electrical Engineers have the opportunity of earning extremely good salaries, especially in big organisations where very good packages are offered to them which is inclusive of excellent salaries, company cars, housing benefits etc. A career in Electrical Engineering not only provides great financial benefits, but it also provides immense job satisfaction along with recognition in the society.
