Course: Basic Requirements
For doing a B.E. / B.Tech. and diploma course in printing engineering one requires to clear 10+2 with physics, chemistry and maths. Percentage requirements differ in accordance with an institute’s policy.
Aspirants are required to appear at the state level engineering competitive examination or all India level tests (like AIEEE).

Print technology course and career are most suited for creative and mechanical minded people.
Good eyesight, including depth perception, field of view, colour vision, visual acuity and the ability to focus quickly, are a must.

Career in printing technology at the earliest level can start after clearing the plus two examination (or its equivalent). Having this qualification enables one to become an apprentice. The only additional requirement for an apprentice is proficiency in English. They are generally hired directly by the presses. An apprentice is asked to sign a contract before beginning training and during the training, he is paid a stipend. Tons of opportunities are available for diploma holders and degree holders. In fact, opportunities far exceed the man-power. Most of the newspaper organizations in prevalent times have their own printing presses. These require competent professionals all the time. Newspapers like The Times of India, Hindustan Times, Indian Express, Free Press Journal etc provide ample employment to deserving candidates.
Printing jobs exist in various government organizations involved in publishing educational and cultural publications viz. Sahitya Academy, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Indian Council of Social Science Research, Security Printing & Minting Corporation of India Limited, Printing and Stationery Department, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B), Ministry of Education and Culture, National Book Trust, NCERT, Children’s Book Trust etc. Some major universities also have their own publishing departments which publish academic works. One can also become a freelancer or one can open one´s own publishing unit.
