Production Engineering courses in India are closely associated with manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering and mechanical engineering. It is so because of the overlapping principles which are similar with other three engineering disciplines. The similarity is very obvious as production requires manufacturing in an industrial set up through mechanical tasks. This similarity can also be seen in definition of Production Engineering or Production Technology, which states it as - A branch of engineering which combines fundamentals of manufacturing technology with management science, for producing a particular product or products. Production Engineering colleges in India thus have a production engineering curriculum which includes application of equipment, resources planning, production processes, cost control techniques and so forth. By default a Production Engineer or a Production Technologist, is a professional who is involved in Production Engineering field. A typical production engineer works to produce a variety of items either for domestic or industrial use; his areas of work includes product composition, design, testing, safety, maintenance and all important tasks. They will handle one to two or more aforesaid tasks, depending upon their skills. In many cases a product engineer may be referred as manufacturing or a mechanical engineer etc. because of the above cited reasons. Production Engineering in India is supported and promoted by various bodies. One such is, Indian Institution of Production Engineers. It is the premier body of Indian Manufacturing Professionals. It provides a platform for networking and knowledge sharing, accessible whenever or wherever you choose. Another, named Indian Society of Production Engineers is a non-profit Technical Society which updates vital information in field of Engineering and Technology.

Course Objectives
Course: Basic Requirements
The basic eligibility criteria for a B.E. / B.Tech is 10+2 or equivalent examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After the bachelor's one can go in for a post graduate degree.
Selection to the graduate courses (B.E. / B.Tech ) is based on merit i.e the marks secured in the final exams of 10+2 and through entrance exams. Entrance to the IIT's is through JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) and for other major institutions through AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination) or their own separate entrance exams and other state level and national level exams
To acquire a career in Production Engineering, graduates from Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering are the most suitable ones.

Career & Job Perspectives
Being an interdisciplinary field Production Engineering jobs abound in any area which requires production. And production, manufacturing is all done in industries. Thus opportunities are widely available in public and private sector engaged in development, management, implementation, assembling, handling, inspection et al in production of various products. Production is required at all levels of industrial production. Subsequently, employment is also required in research, development, design, fabrication, evaluation, troubleshooting of parts, internal fixtures, machines, processes etc. Candidates who have experience in related are the most suitable ones. Metropolitan cities or industrial towns are major hubs for employment, some of these cities are Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Delhi, Ludhiana etc. So one will have to relocate to such cities for better employment and high wages. Production Engineers are employed by reputed organisations such as L&T, Tata, Maruti Udyog, Reliance, Eicher, Intel, ITC, Birla, Escorts, Voltas, Telco etc.
Production Engineering Remuneration
Fresh production engineers start with a salary ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per month, with allowances. Those with an additional management degree can command salaries of Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 per month.
