NEET UG 2024 - National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Under Graduates acronym as NEET-UG will be taken by CBSE (National Testing Agency i.e., NTA from 2019) on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Medical Science from 2017 again (replacing State Level Medical Entrance Tests as well as CBSE's AIPMT) to admit aspiring candidates to the undergraduate medical course (MBBS and BDS) throughout India. From 2019 the test will be taken online and twice a year in the months of Feb and May every year.
A merit list will be prepared on the basis of NEET UG scores which will be applicable for admission to nearly 355 recognized MBBS colleges and 300 BDS colleges.
However State Quotas and Reservations in Medical Colleges would remain intact as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test will draw up merit lists at national and state levels separately for General Category, SC, ST and OBC, and PD candidates. Besides, NEET-UG will not interfere with the management quota of private medical and dental colleges.
Although NEET will be applicable to mostly all the Medical Colleges in India there were some exclusions. These are AIIMS - All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER-Chandigarh) as these institutions were set up by separate laws and will be out of the purview of NEET-UG.
