Nanotechnology Courses in India

Nanotechnology is a branch of engineering that deals with manipulating matter on an atomic and molecular scale. To be specific, it is a use of matter which is smaller than 100 nanometers (a metric unit of length equal to one billionth of a meter). Nanotechnology Courses in India are quite popular even though this field is still emerging in India. Nanotechnology is popularly known as ‘The Science of the Miniature’ because it uses very small particles i.e. a Nano; one nanometer (nm) is one billionth, or 10−9, of a meter. In layman terms, nano-materials are 5,000 to 50,000 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. The uses of nanotechnology are varied and very useful in reducing the size of almost anything. Nanotechnology has the potential of developing materials, devices, or other structures at a molecular level. It can develop atomic-size computer devices on silicon chips, or build molecules that can sense particular bacteria or viruses or can be used as catalyst powders which can use sunlight to control pollutants. It has the potential of creating unbelievable instruments and gadgets which can and are on the way to revolutionise the world. However, on the other hand there are concerns as the field is of recent origin, there is lack of substantial research on it's impact and lack or improper policy framework. Because of this, Nanotechnology is considered either a blessing or a curse. A Nanotechnology Professional is known as Nanotechnologist. A Nanotechnologist can be a technician, inventor, policy maker etc. But mostly a Nanotechnologist is a Researcher as research and development are the most important sectors of Nanotechnology. Nanotechnology and Nanoscience are interdisciplinary fields that combine physics, chemistry, and biology. To define - Nanoscience is the study of objects at nanometer scale, and deriving theoretical concepts and governing laws for them whereas nanaotechnology uses and manipulates nanos to produce useful applications. It is the suffix which changes in both the terms, thus it can be concluded that difference between these two fields is like differentiating science and technology.
